The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying Retail POS Systems.

There's nothing more exciting than opening the doors, of your shiny new location, for the first time - welcoming customers into your space! Only then to feel completely frazzled because your POS ( point of sale) system is not connected properly or not working at all!

Recently, I was hired as tech support to help a local retail boutique set up its systems after their current IT guy left them hanging when they opened their doors. I was able to quickly jump in and figure out where he had overcomplicated things. He left them feeling completely clueless, with so many questions unanswered.

SYSTEMS are what can make or break your business, that’s EXACTLY why they need to be simplified, streamlined, all while allowing your clients to feel empowered while using them!

Your POS system can be a very daunting task, especially with all the moving parts of opening a physical retail location!

It should in fact feel empowering and exciting!

Here are my suggestions and tips to keep your process running smoothly and have you up and running in no time!

For Salons, Spa, Wellness Studios:

My suggestion:
Squarespace Website +
Square POS & Appointment Setter

Square is also a POS tool that can connect with an appointment scheduler. Since you will have less products and more appointments this will help streamline your system.

Here's what you'll need:

An iPad or Laptop maybe both

iPad stand + keyboard

Square account scheduling & product inventory

A credit card terminal that also prints receipts

A cash drawer

For Boutiques and Retail:

My suggestion:
Shopify Ecommerce
PLUS Shopify POS

Here's what you'll need:

A Shopify subscription

An iPad or tablet to download the POS app + a keyboard

A barcode scanner

A receipt printer

A cash drawer

A tap and chip card reader or terminal

A label printer zd411 and labels
( Print your labels with a desktop or laptop)

Keep in mind that these systems do charge credit card processing fees depending on your state laws you can choose to add it into your customer payment or charge an additional fee.

You can also use your phone - iPhone or Android to collect payments simply by downloading the app and signing in.

Some additional things you may want to think about:

Physical Gift Cards with barcode or QR scanner

A business router and wifi

Extension cords with multiple outlets

Phone line setup + Phone

Printer with Bluetooth capabilities

Business cards

Outdoor signs

A Photo Opp area if you want to make it a fun interactive experience!
